Battle was on their doorstep, yet the townspeople mainly consisted of farmers, loggers, and hunters. None were well versed in he ways of battle. Nevertheless, they rallied together any willing to fight in order to protect their beloved town. The cruel horns and vulgar shouts of the trolls could be heard in the hills just beyond the town. Surely, battle would fall soon. The trolls were swift in their attack on the town, their main forces coming from the southwest. No more were they the silent, lumbering things stray hunters would spot from time to time: they were now hulking brutes with death in their eyes. The trolls easily destroyed what little walls and fences the townspeople set up to delay their coming. The townspeople bravely stood their ground and fought, but many lost their lives to the terrible troll weaponry. Verily, the town would be completely destroyed and all the human inhabitants would be slaughtered. A terrible cackle from the eldritch terror who put this destruction in motion echoed from the woods on all sides of the town. No hope was to be found. Though, in the thick of battle, hundreds of armored barred, great horned and great gray owls swooped upon the troll forces. Their talons ripped troll flesh, and impossibly saved the town from the brink of utter annihilation. They were of course led by the Owl God, Nebulosa. As the last of the trolls was killed, a large, vaguely anthropomorphic shadow appeared along the tree line outside of the town. Those who gazed upon it felt indescribable terror, their nerves being strained to the edge of insanity. Just as unexpectantly it appeared, so too it vanished. Nebulosa relayed to the townsfolk that what they just saw was an ancient phantom from the outer reaches, thought to have been banished from the world. The thing that caused so much destruction no longer had any forces to command, and for the time being, had fled. While the town was saved, and the people rejoiced in this triumph, Nebulosa knew this daemon needed to be dealt with before any other, possibly more catastrophic disaster could happen.
